Worship Committee

 
Mission:  To enrich the life of the church through worship and observance of the Sacraments and those things pertaining thereto.      
  
Membership:  Two elders as co-chairpersons, two members of adult choir, youth choir director, organist/choir director, one PYM
                       leader, five members at large, pastor (ex officio).
 
Resoponsibilities:
 
                    1.  Order of Worship
                            - initiate whatever means are necessary to develop a sense of reverence and worship among the congregation
                              (B.O. S-2.0400)
 
                    2.  Prepare for Sacraments
                            - arrange for preparation and care of the elements, equipment, linens and service equipment
                            - in consultation with the pastor, provide counseling to parents of baptized children pertaining to participation
                              in communion
 
                    3.  Music, Instruments, Hymnals, Bibles, Paraments
                            - oversee the church musical programs
                            - recruit new members for adult and youth choirs
                            - oversee the care and maintenance of church's musical instruments
                            - purchase Bibles, hymnals, paraments when necessary
                            - schedule and coordinate special music activities, including outside groups in consultation with directors of
                               adult and youth choirs
                            - Minister and choir director will have responsibility of musical selections for services, including weddings,
                               special services, etc.
                            - Note:  within budgetary limitations, the planning for the selection of music for choir shall be determined by
                               the appropriate choir director
 
                      4.  Pulpit/Organist Supply
                             - obtain a pulpit supply whenever the pastor is away, and for other special occasions approved by the session
                             - recommend to the session the amount of gratuity (including travel mileage) that the committee suggests
                                giving to those filling the pulpit/organist before the annual budget time
 
                       5.  Nursery
                              - maintain nursery personnel
                              - provide for a nursery during worship, fellowship dinners, and other church functions as required
                              - provide guidelines for us of nursery
 
                        6.  Acolyte
                              - arrange for Acolyte on a monthly basis
 
                        7.  Greeters and Ushers
                              - be responsible for welcoming all visitors and guests
                              - be responsible for drawing up a monthly list of ushers
 
                         8.  Ritual of Friendship
                               - designate someone to be in charge
                               - maintain friendship pads/pencils in pews
                               - remove filled-out sheets and place on pastor's desk each Sunday
 
                          9.  Flowers
                                - coordinate the flower schedule and other church decorations
                                - devise plans for the possible usage of flowers not wanted by the donors (may be taken to someone who is
                                  sick or a shut-in
 
                         10.  Budget
                                 - recommend annually to Finance/Stewardship Committee budget requirements for functions of this
                                   committee, including choir and music expenses, devotional booklets, pulpit/organist supply expenses, 
                                   and communion expenses
